This is a children’s book concept I’ve been toying with for a while. It’s essentially a story about time and death, which doesn’t sound too children’s book-y, I know, but the story would address the issue in a subtle and abstract way (I hope). Anyway, this a full page spread in which the two mainContinue reading “Sailing the skies”

Fishing Village: work-in-progress
Three hour digital sketch that I’m going to tidy up and colour for the portfolio. The idea was taken from a fantasy book I’m reading at the moment by Miles Cameron (if you’ve not read his work, I highly recommend him). I’m excited about this one!
Happy Father’s Day!
Darcy and Ted
Two hour quick digital paint of a girl and her dog. Not really any refinement to this one, just a quick bit of character design and a mess around with colours. Enjoy!
Safari Family Photo – Process part 2
This took a little longer than anticipated, but it’s finally finished! So… the final part of the process is by far and away the longest and most tedious. I can kind of switch off my brain a little bit here and just settle in for the long haul. I’m adding contact shadow, detail (like giraffeContinue reading “Safari Family Photo – Process part 2”
Safari Family Photo – Process part 1
This isn’t finished yet (maybe tomorrow), but I wanted to post up the work-in-progress to show the general process of how I work and how much things can change from the original idea. I almost always start with a rough pencil drawing (left) – this can take a few tries, but the sketch is onlyContinue reading “Safari Family Photo – Process part 1”
Loch Ness Monster?
Playing around with some ideas for children’s books. I like the thought that there’s someone that lives by Loch Ness who’s friends with the monster and has been trying to bribe it with fish to stay hidden and safe.
“Why did we buy a house here?”
Quick Photoshop piece inspired by a trip to Norway that happened too long ago…
Lazy Sunday
Just a quick study today. This illustration was inspired by a Wildlife Photographer of the Year winner. Super simple, no frills. Enjoy.
The Owl and the Squirrel
Here’s a few illustrations from my new project. These are nothing but rough pieces at the moment, as i’m just trying to get ideas down and get the creative juices flowing. Bear in mind these are just roughs and basic character sheets – the story isn’t even fleshed out yet, but it’s getting there! Enjoy!
